Photo: VNP The 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians opened on September 14 in Hanoi. 500 delegates, including about 200 young parliamentarians from around the world, participated in many activities around the theme “The Role of Young People in Promoting the Realization of Sustainable Development Goals via Digital Transformation and Innovations.” On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son, a standing committee member of the National Assembly’s Education and Culture Committee, expressed his hope that this is an opportunity for Vietnam to demonstrate its cultural identity and promote international cooperation and exchange. The event is scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on March 4, with each show lasting for one hour. A total of 20 kimonos by Japanese designer Kobayashi Eiko will be introduced at the show. In addition, models will perform in the Vietnamese Ao Dai (traditional long dress) created from fabric materials used to make kimono. The event is being jointly organised by BRG Group, the non-profit cultural organisation Be-Japon, and the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam. It will be one part of activities held to mark 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan which first happened on September 21, 1973. Quan Ke Huy, also known as Jonathan Ke Quan, 52, won the Best Supporting Actor nomination for a movie in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once,’ which has so far gained 11 Oscar nominations, marking a milestone for the representation of Asia in the world’s film industry. The movie is a 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. In the film, Quan Ke Huy successfully plays Waymond Wang, the gentle and quirky husband of the female lead Evelyn Quan played by Michelle Yeoh Choo Kheng, a Malaysian actress. Born in a Chinese-Vietnamese family in 1971 in Saigon, the old name of Ho Chi Minh City, Huy and his relatives left Vietnam for the U.S. to settle down there when he was seven.
