On September 2, 1945, tens of thousands of red flags bearing a yellow five-pointed star in the middle made by Tu Van villagers covered Ba Dinh Square, where President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam. Since then, millions of flags produced by the craftsmen of Tu Van village have been shipped to localities nationwide to mark important national celebrations. Four generations of Nguyen Van Phuc’s family work to produce national flags, selling hundreds of thousands of flags each year.
