Drawing on stones in Vietnam

Image
Drawing on stones is nothing unusual for artists, but there are only a few people who can earn a living by doing it and make their artworks known to a wide audience. However, a young man who lives in A Luoi is able to do both: drawing on stones and earning a living from the artworks. Drawing on stones, why not? After graduating from the Hue University School of Arts, Nguyen Viet Cong Thanh earned money by drawing murals to decorate restaurants and cafés. In order to ‘survive first,’ as Thanh said, he put aside his passion for art to make ends meet.  The idea of painting on stones came to Thanh unexpectedly during a picnic with his friends three years ago. Walking along the spring and looking at stones in different shapes, Thanh wondered why he should not use the stones, of which there are so many in his hometown, as a material for drawing. He immediately began to try his hand at the idea. He carefully searched for and collected stones, washed them before drying...

Image
In order to take beautiful photos in the area, tourists should choose sunny days in which to visit the incense village. As a traditional craft village, Quang Phu Cau village is busy almost all year round. On sunny days, drying incense is one of the main tasks done in the production of incense sticks, with the bouquets of incense being similar to giant flowers under the bright sunlight. Hitomi Fujiyama from Japan shares that she learnt about the place through social network and is excited by the wonderful scenery on offer. Elíse Huet of France is fond of exploring the scenery and is fascinated by the process of making incense in the village. Two traditional markets in Hanoi fall quiet in post-COVID period

Image
The market has been left fairly deserted over recent times, in contrast to previous years. The sluggish business situation makes traders depressed. Some use phones to play games or chat to pass away the time. Many store owners state that there has been a downturn in customers compared to previous years. This can largely be put down to the COVID-19 epidemic having a great influence on the economy, with less families spending money on buying essential goods. Similar scenes are recorded at Hang Da market. Many stores remain closed due to the downturn. Store owners have also been forced to reduce their imports of goods, although many items remain on the shelves. Sellers at work have plenty of free time as they lack customers.
