Vietnamese tennis star soars higher in ATP rankings

The rise is attributed to Nam’s great performances at the Bangkok Open 3 in Thailand, where he made it to the quarterfinals of men’s singles in the past week.

Part of the ATP Challenger Tour system, the tournament’s results directly affect participating athletes’ ATP rankings.

Nam earned a total of nine points during the tourney and ascended to No. 272 from No. 290, a position he just obtained late last month.

This is the highest ranking the Vietnamese star player has achieved in his career so far and also a historical milestone for Vietnamese tennis.

The 25-year-old is expected to shoot up the ATP rankings upon his return to Vietnam to compete in professional tournaments later this month.

Vietnam looking for talented foreign coach for men’s football team following Park’s departure

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) officially announced on Monday that it will end the contract with Park on January 31, 2023, closing his fruitful five-year journey with Vietnamese football that had started in late 2017. The decision means that the 2022 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup, set to take place between December and January, will be Park’s last tournament as the head coach of the men’s national football team. The VFF affirmed that the farewell to the South Korean coach, who brought significant success to Vietnamese football during his tenure, came from a mutual understanding and the desire for a prosperous future for both parties. Following the announcement, a VFF member told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the federation’s standing committee is in talks with potential candidates to find a replacement. “The new coach will be foreign, with good qualifications and a monumental résumé like our current head coach of the men’s national futsal team,” the VFF member said, re...

New Hanoi-Inspired Mooncakes Arrive on the Scene

The Mid-Autumn Festival (15th day of the eighth lunar month or September 29 this year) is drawing near, and businesses are introducing unique collections of mooncakes that are not only delicious but also carry a cultural story. In Hanoi, the mooncake market is vibrant with many collections inspired by the capital’s culture. One of these collections is called Moonlight, inspired by the traditional lacquer painting “Autumn Moon Shadow” by artist Hoang Huu Van. It depicts a full moon night in August and the familiar images of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Moonlight collection features mooncakes stored in lacquer boxes made by artisans from Ha Thai Lacquer Village in Hanoi. The use of traditional colors in the packaging evokes a sense of nostalgia and brings back childhood memories of the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival.
