The 2023 Vietnam Day was held in Gwangju city of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on May 21, aiming to popularise the traditional and unique culture of Vietnam to international friends as well as to strengthen cultural exchange between the two countries, VNA reported Tuesday.

Nguyen Viet Phong, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in the RoK’s Gwangju-jeonnam region, said the event offers a good opportunity for the Vietnamese community to meet and enhance solidarity and mutual support.

Kang Gi-jung, Mayor of Gwangju city, expressed his hope that through the 2023 Vietnam Day, the people-to-people diplomacy and locality-to-locality exchange between the RoK and Vietnam will be further expanded.

Yu Min-bong, General Secretary of the Governors Association of the Republic of Korea (GAROK), said this is an opportunity for Korean people to experience Vietnamese culture and access products of Vietnamese enterprises.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK Nguyen Vu Tung said he will continue to support Gwangju city administration, GAROK and the Vietnamese Association in Gwangju in carrying out meaningful activities, contributing to strengthening local collaboration and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries as well as assisting Nghe An province and Gwangju city in their future cooperation.

Nguyen Nam Dinh, Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Council of Nghe An province, said that the Vietnam Day program in Gwangju on the occasion of Gwangju Citizens Day is a vivid demonstration of the cooperation and cultural exchange between the two countries of Vietnam – RoK, between Nghe An province and Gwangju city. This is an opportunity to introduce to the people of Gwangju city the traditional culture of Nghe An, especially the Nghe Tinh’s Vi – Giam singing, which was honored by UNESCO as the intangible culture of humanity.

Visitors were treated to traditional art performances, traditional costumes shows and special cuisine as well as took part in folk games of Vietnam.

Within the framework of the 2023 Vietnam Day, visitors were treated to folk art performances by Nghe An province’s arts troupe, vibrant music performances from singer Han Sara.

In addition, traditional costumes shows, experience in traditional costumes imbued with national identity, experience the unique cuisine of the three regions of North-Central-South (pho, noodle soup, spring rolls, cake, sugarcane juice, fresh coconut juice), as well as traditional games such as making bamboo dragonflies, traditional houses, lotus lights, have attracted the attention of many participants.

Through this festival, international students in particular and Vietnamese in the RoK in general, have had more opportunities to meet and spread love with unique and beautiful traditional culture. These festivals are necessary for cultural and exchange activities between the two countries, and to strengthen the friendly relationship between the two countries.

Earlier this May, a Vietnam-Korea culture exchange programme was held in Uijeongbu city of Gyeonggi province, bringing together crowds of overseas Vietnamese living, studying, and working in the RoK.

The event was hosted by the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the RoK, with the support of the Vietnamese Embassy in the country.

Currently, there are about 80,000 Vietnamese women living in the RoK. They are actively contributing to the host country’s socio-economic development, and become a diplomatic bridge between the two countries.

Unique plants on display at Hanoi Ornamental Creatures Festival 2022

The event features a wider range of unique ornamental trees and bonsai worth several hundreds to billions of VND. This piece named “Hoang Long Vu De” is valued at VND3 billion, equivalent to US$126,370. Another piece, named “Vu Hoi Long Hoa”, is offered at a price in the tens of billions of VND. The age-old tree often has a massive, mossy trunk. A gardener brings his ornamental tree to the festival, offering it at VND3.5 billion, equal to US$147,431. Vietnam-Japan Diplomacy Marked with Magnificent LED Light Show Celebrating 50 Years

The light display at Bien Dong Park in Da Nang, Vietnam, features three scenes inspired by the iconic flowers of both Vietnam and Japan – lotus and sakura (cherry blossom), respectively. The display consists of 500,000 LED lights, symbolizing the 50 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
