Explore Tam Thanh – The Colorful Mural Village In Quang Nam

Tam Thanh mural village is located in Tam Thanh commune, Tam Ky City, Quang Nam province. The village has one side bordering the sea and the other side bordering the Truong Giang River, about 7km from the center of Tam Ky city.

This is the first mural village in Vietnam under the cooperation of Vietnamese and Korean artists and volunteers, which was established in 2016. It has helped attract many domestic and foreign tourists coming to this place to explore the unique sight of arts and creativity.

The project was a success, and the village has been brought to life by the paintings. The entire town is now a breathtaking walk-through gallery just waiting to be explored. The murals that adorn it capture the life and soul of the village, from young children playing, to fishermen in the ocean. Mixed in are a good number of fantasy pieces offering great backdrops for photos.

However, the murals degraded over time, which affected the number of tourists. To restore the village’s “vitality”, a project to redraw the murals has been underway since April.

The art painted around the town has had not only a visual but a social impact too. The village itself was chosen not only due to the location of the houses but to help with economic development opportunities in Tam Thanh. Tourists are now visiting the once-quiet village of Tam Thanh, to see the impressive murals. This, in turn, creates more income for the locals making it a successful ‘art for a cause’ project.

Currently, the new colorful murals are drawn about the daily life of the fishermen along with the beauty of the natural scenery here impress travelers around the world.

The Tam Thanh basket boat path is a unique art product, using many vibrant colors to paint the daily scenes of people’s activities n the basket boats. This road is an impressive highlight, attracting visitors to come and see for themselves.

The beach is fully equipped with a net and a lifeguard stands for your safety. It’s not uncommon to see groups of aspiring karaoke singers bring their speakers to the beach. So get ready for some very local entertainment.

How to get to Tam Thanh Mural Village from Hoi An

Tam Thanh is located roughly 45 kilometers south of Hoi An or 12 kilometers east of Tam Ky. It lies on a strip of land caught between the sea and the Truong Giang River. It’s possible to reach the village by taxi, private car, bus, or even an organized tour. If you have your transport, it would be easiest, by far, to drive yourself.

Vietnamese Heroic Mother Statue

Located 7.7 kilometers inland from the mural village is the Vietnamese Heroic Mother Statue. The biggest heroic mother statue in Vietnam. The granite statue stands 18 meters high and 120 meters wide at its base. It resembles the image of the heroic mother Nguyen Thi Thu. Nguyen Thi Thu had several children and grandchildren who died during two wars. She also hid many soldiers and guerillas in five secret tunnels situated in the garden of her house.

At the entrance leading to the monument are eight pillars. They are sculpted with images of heroic mothers from across the country as well as young female volunteers. Also on the grounds is a small exhibition space with images and artifacts of the noble mother.
