Vietnam Wins 8 Medals at International Chemistry Olympiad in Uzbekistan
The inaugural International Chemistry Olympiad, named after the renowned scholar Abu Rayhan Beruni, concluded in Khiva, Uzbekistan. The event was incredibly successful, showcasing the talent and skill of young chemists from around the world.

Vietnam emerged as the champion at the inaugural Abu Reikhan Beruniy International Chemistry Olympiad, with all eight of its participating students earning medals. The Vietnamese team secured an impressive haul, including four gold medals and four silver medals. The Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Chemistry Association made this announcement, as reported by VNA.
The four golds were earned by Do Phu Quoc from Quang Nam province’s Le Thanh Tong High School for Gifted Students, Nguyen Nguyen Hai and Le Quang Truong from Nghe An province’s Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students, and Nguyen Huu Tien Hung from Bac Ninh province’s High School for Gifted Students.
The silver medals were awarded to Truong Bao Ngoc from Bac Ninh province’s High School for Gifted Students, Hoang Tien Cuong from Nam Dinh province’s Le Hong Phong High School for Gifted Students, Tran Duc Anh from High School for Gifted Students of the University of Science under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Giap Vu Son Ha from Bac Giang province’s High School for Gifted Students.
The daughter of the President of Uzbekistan, Saida Mirziyoyeva, sent her congratulations to the participants and winners of the inaugural International Chemistry Olympiad.

The competition, which is specifically aimed at students under the age of 18, is organized every two years in the Khorezm region of Uzbekistan by the Ministry of Preschool and School Education. Starting in 2023, the event attracts a jury panel made up of respected academicians, professors, and experienced specialists from both Uzbekistan and abroad.
In the first round of the competition, students were required to complete a theoretical examination consisting of seven tests. These tests had to be completed within a 5-hour timeframe. In the second round, students were tasked with a practical examination. This examination lasted three hours.
This year, the competition was held from June 11-17, with the participation of 15 countries such as Turkey, Azerbaijan, India, Vietnam, Algeria, Brazil, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Oman.
However, this year’s competition was particularly notable for its diverse range of participating countries. With representatives from countries such as Turkey, Azerbaijan, India, Vietnam, Algeria, Brazil, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Oman, it showcased a truly global participation.
