July International Visitor Numbers Reach Post-Pandemic High

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the country has experienced a significant growth in foreign visitors. In the current month, there have been around 1.04 million foreign tourists, which is a 6.5% increase from June and a remarkable 194.6% increase compared to the same time last year.

According to the authority, Vietnam has received almost 6.6 million international visitors in the first seven months of this year, representing a significant increase of 592.8% compared to the previous year. This achievement also accounts for 83% of the yearly target.

The tourism sector is expected to reach its yearly target soon, as the second half of the year is typically the peak time for international visitors.

During the seven-month period, the Republic of Korea (RoK) emerged as the largest contributor to the tourism sector in Vietnam, with a total of 1.9 million arrivals. This accounted for approximately one-third of the overall international visitors to the country. Following closely behind were China with 738,000 visitors and the US with 445,000 visitors.

Among the top ten markets, four are located in Northeast Asia, including South Korea, China, Taiwan (China), and Japan. Additionally, three markets are in Southeast Asia – Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia. Australia and India hold the ninth and tenth positions, respectively. In Europe, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany are the three largest markets.

In July, several key tourism markets in Vietnam experienced growth, including Taiwan (31.3%), Japan (15%), China (14%), the United States (7%), and South Korea (6%).

The tourism industry in July welcomed 12.5 million domestic tourists and a total of 76.5 million tourists in the first seven months, generating a revenue of VND416.6 trillion ($17.58 billion).

According to the municipal Department of Tourism, the number of tourists visiting Hanoi is projected to reach 14.7 million in the first seven months of this year, representing a significant increase of 38.7% compared to the same period last year.

According to the forecast, the number of international arrivals is expected to reach 2.43 million, which is a significant increase of 5.7 times compared to the previous year. Additionally, domestic tourism is projected to increase by 20.6%, with an estimated 12.3 million tourists.

Total revenue from tourism in the period is estimated to be approximately VND53.7 trillion, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 68.3%.

The World Tourism Organization predicts that global tourist arrivals will return to pre-Covid-19 levels by 2024 at the earliest.
