Hanoi greets 3.6 million tourists from abroad in the first ten months

Hanoi is aiming to attract 24 million visitors in 2023, with four million of them being international tourists. With two months remaining in the year, the number of foreign arrivals has already reached 3.6 million.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the total number of tourists visiting Hanoi in the first 10 months of 2023 has reached 20.7 million, a 34.3% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

Among these visitors, there were 3.6 million international tourists, a 3.5-fold increase compared to the same period last year. The number of domestic travelers was 17.1 million, a 19.1% increase. The total revenue from tourism activities during this period was estimated at VND76.3 trillion ($3.1 billion), a 66.7% increase compared to last year.

In October 2023, Hanoi welcomed 1.81 million visitors, a 17.2% increase compared to the same month last year but a decrease of 11% compared to September 2023. The number of foreign arrivals in October reached 411,300, a 67.7% increase compared to the same period in 2022 and a 6% increase compared to the previous month. There were 1.4 million domestic tourists, a 7.7% increase compared to the same period in 2022, but a 15% decrease compared to September. The total revenue from tourists in October was estimated at around VND7.17 trillion ($292.1 million), a 69.6% increase compared to the same period in 2022, but a 7% decrease compared to the previous month.

Additionally, Hanoi successfully organized the Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival 2023. This event attracted considerable attention and was an important tourism initiative for Hanoi. In recent years, Hanoi has been striving to enhance collaboration with other regions across the country, aiming to diversify tourism offerings and improve the quality of services. The city’s Department of Tourism has worked closely with relevant units to organize various programs, including the Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival, the trial program of “Hanoi Night: The Touchstone of Emotions,” and more.

Furthermore, Hanoi continues to promote agricultural and rural tourism, explore community tourism models related to handicraft villages and ethnic minorities in Ba Vi District, and conduct surveys to establish a waterway tour connecting tourist destinations along the Red River.

The hotel occupancy rate in Hanoi was approximately 50.1% in October, a 7.5% decrease compared to September. It is estimated that the average hotel occupancy rate for the 10 months of 2023 will reach 59.9%, a 13.9% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
